Purpose of the position: If you are an energetic Mechanical Engineer with a passion for solving complex challenges in brownfield and greenfield projects, this role could be the perfect opportunity for you. We are a local EPC company that delivers agile, multi-disciplinary engineering projects—typically over 12–18 months for clients operating critical infrastructure.
We love solving local problems with local talent. Our projects include modifications to existing factories, as well as greenfield and renewable energy projects. Our projects range from pure design (including conceptual design) to full EPC (Engineering, Procurement&Construction). To qualify for the role of Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will need at least:
Qualifications and experience
B Eng or BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering. An MSc Eng is advantageous. A B Tech may be considered if you have more than 10 years’ experience.
At least 8 years’ experience in industrial mechanical and piping engineering projects, with specific experience in petrochemical projects.
Registered as a Pr Eng or Pr Tech, with the required competency in piping design.
Experience in the application of ASME codes, pressure equipment regulations, and other international standards for vessels, piping, and furnaces. Experience with ASME B31.3 is essential.
Exposure to mechanical fabrication and construction projects and processes.
Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams.
Experience in the design of pressure equipment (piping and vessels).
Experience in pipe stress engineering using CAESAR II.
Required outputs and responsibilities:
Generate and execute technical deliverables, including technical report writing, scoping, work breakdown, resource allocation, and the development of mechanical specifications and designs for greenfield and brownfield projects.
Produce high-quality drawings, including design, checking, and review.
Ensure that discipline deliverables have been executed in accordance with the necessary technical standards, specifications, client requirements, applicable internal quality systems, and interface requirements with other work/disciplines.
Mentor, coach, and supervise junior engineers.
Interfacing and liaising with clients during proposal, investigation, remediation, design, and construction phases of projects.
Interfacing and liaising with supply, fabrication, and construction subcontractors during proposal, design, and construction phases of projects.
Provide discipline input during MFD (P&ID) reviews, HAZOP studies, model reviews, constructability reviews, and mechanical/design philosophy review meetings, both internally and with clients.
Personal attributes and behaviour competencies:
Affinity for detail engineering and a passion for mechanical engineering, with a specific focus on piping engineering.
Ability to work under pressure.
Conceptual and analytical problem-solving.
Strong team player (good interpersonal skills).
Strong written and verbal communication skills, both internally and with clients.
