Role Summary ALX South Africa is looking for a Learning Community Experience Associate, who will be responsible for creating a supportive, engaging, and high‑accountability learning environment for learners enrolled in our Career and Creative Tech programmes. The programmes include Virtual Assistant to Content Creation and Graphic Design.

Based at the Johannesburg hub, the associate will play a key role in ensuring learners remain motivated, connected, and on track throughout their learning journey. The role focuses on activating paid learners into the programme and sustaining engagement through mentorship, masterclasses, community learning events, and personalised communication.

The success of this role will be measured by the activation rate of paid learners and ensuring learners graduate from their programmes. By combining community building, learner support, and proactive outreach via calls, SMS, WhatsApp, and email, the associate will help learners overcome challenges and remain committed to completing their programmes.

Specific Responsibilities Learner Activation&Onboarding

Drive the activation rate of paid learners by ensuring new learners successfully start their programmes.

Guide learners through onboarding, helping them understand programme expectations, tools, and milestones.

Conduct welcome calls and orientation sessions to ensure learners feel supported from day one.

Learner Retention&Engagement

Increase learner retention through consistent, personalized outreach via calls, SMS, WhatsApp, and email.

Provide encouragement, accountability, and guidance to help learners remain committed to their goals through innovative solutions.

Monitor learner engagement and progress to proactively address disengagement and improve graduation rates.

Community Strategy&Building

Develop and execute an in‑person learning community‑building strategy and roadmap that aligns with the organisation’s mission and values and drives engagement and student retention.

Create engaging content, events, and experiences that provide in‑person learning, foster community interactions, and cultivate a strong sense of learner ownership.

Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (product, marketing, alumni, and operations) to develop and execute community initiatives, integrating learner feedback into programme improvements.

Build a vibrant, inclusive learning community within the Johannesburg hub, as well as online and offline for learners located outside Johannesburg.

Stay up‑to‑date with industry trends, best practices, and new technologies in learning, community management, and career/creative tech education to continuously enhance the community experience.

Data Monitoring&Evaluation

Monitor and analyse community metrics (activation, engagement, retention, and graduation) to identify areas for improvement and growth.

Evaluate the success of community programs, events, and initiatives, and recommend strategies to enhance the learner experience.

Maintain accurate records of community engagement, learner feedback, and initiatives for reporting and program optimisation.

Learner Support&Customer Service

Provide excellent customer service to learners, addressing queries, challenges, and concerns promptly and empathetically.

Offer mentorship, guidance, and referrals to additional resources to support learners throughout their journey.

Coordinate mentorship opportunities and masterclasses with industry professionals and alumni.

Hub Engagement

Maintain a strong physical presence at the Johannesburg hub (3–5 days per week) to support in‑person learner engagement and community.

Create a welcoming and productive hub environment where learners can collaborate, learn, and grow.

Skill Requirements - Essential

1–3 years of experience in community management, learner support, education programmes, or youth development initiatives.

Experience working in learning environments, bootcamps, training programmes, or education organisations.

Proven experience supporting young professionals, students, or early‑career talent through coaching, mentorship, or programme facilitation.

Experience organising and facilitating events, workshops, or masterclasses for learning communities.

Experience engaging communities through digital communication channels such as WhatsApp groups, email campaigns, or online forums.

Skill Requirements - Preferable

Familiarity with career pathways in the digital economy, particularly in areas such as Virtual Assistance, Content Creation, or Graphic Design.

Experience using CRM systems, learner management systems (LMS), or data tracking tools to monitor engagement and learner progress.

Prior experience working in fast‑paced, mission‑driven organisations focused on youth empowerment, skills development, or entrepreneurship is an advantage.

Employment Type This role is a full‑time position.

Work Hours

The required work hours are 40hrs per week. Hybrid: work 3‑5 days a week in the hub.

The preferred time zones are SAST.

Due to the considerable amount of virtual working and interaction with colleagues and customers in different physical locations internationally, it is essential that the successful applicant has the drive and ethic to succeed working in small teams physically but in larger efforts virtually. Self‑drive to communicate constantly using web collaboration and video conferencing is essential. As an employee, you will be encouraged to continually develop your capability&attain certifications to reflect your growth as an individual.
