This is a remote position. Lyceum College invites applications from qualified and experienced academic professionals to serve as External Moderators within the Faculty of Commerce. Moderators play a critical quality assurance role by independently evaluating assessments, marking processes and academic standards across all Commerce qualifications offered by the College.Moderators ensure that assessments are fair, reliable, valid, aligned with NQF level expectations, and consistent with institutional and regulatory quality assurance requirements. They also mentor internal academic staff and contribute to continuous improvement in assessment practices. Please note: Individuals appointed as External Moderators may not simultaneously serve as Module Leaders in the same programme or qualification.Subject Areas Requiring Moderators

Pre-Assessment Moderation
Review draft exam papers, and other assessments for academic currency, relevance and quality. Evaluate alignment between assessment tasks, marking rubrics and module learning outcomes. Confirm appropriate cognitive demand aligned with the NQF level. Recommend improvements to structure, clarity, accuracy and academic rigour.Post-Assessment Moderation
Review samples of marked scripts across achievement levels. Confirm accuracy, fairness and consistency of marking. Identify irregularities or risks relating to assessment or academic integrity. Recommend remarking where necessary. Mentorship and Academic Support
Provide developmental feedback to Module Leaders and internal examiners. Advise on assessment design, marking practices and academic quality. Participate in assessment review activities when required. Reporting and Compliance
Submit detailed moderation reports within stipulated timelines. Highlight areas of concern and propose corrective measures. Support the College in fulfilling its quality assurance obligations. Requirements
A relevant Master’s degree in a Commerce-related field. At least 3 years’ experience in teaching and assessment in higher education. Demonstrable experience in assessment design and moderation. Strong understanding of CHE standards, NQF levels and HE regulatory frameworks. Excellent analytical, academic writing and communication skills.Ability to provide impartial, developmental and evidence-based feedback. Access to a reliable laptop and internet connection. Added Advantage
Doctorate in the relevant discipline. Experience moderating for private higher education institutions. Familiarity with distance learning and online teaching environments. Prior involvement in external higher education quality assurance processes. Application Process
