About the Opportunity

Our client is a mining development platform focused on transforming artisanal gold regions into structured industrial production systems across the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The business is currently advancing the development of a 200TPH hard-rock mineral processing plant, entering a critical engineering and execution phase as the project transitions from conceptual development into fabrication-ready design, construction preparation, commissioning, and operational ramp-up.

As part of a highly specialised Core Design Triad, the company seeks to appoint an experienced Mechanical / Plant Design Engineer (Fabrication & Buildability Lead) to convert process design into practical, buildable, and fabrication-ready engineering packages suitable for execution in remote mining environments.

This opportunity is suited to a hands-on engineering professional with a proven track record of delivering operational mining plants, rather than purely theoretical engineering outputs.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Plant Design & Engineering

• Develop detailed mechanical plant layouts and engineering designs for a 200TPH hard-rock processing facility.
• Produce high-quality 3D plant models and general arrangement drawings.
• Translate process flowsheets into fabrication-ready engineering deliverables.

Fabrication & Buildability

• Prepare complete fabrication-ready engineering packages for site execution.
• Ensure constructability and installation practicality in remote mining environments.
• Review plant layout optimisation for accessibility, maintainability, and operational efficiency.

Structural & Piping Coordination

• Coordinate mechanical, structural, piping, and plant integration requirements.
• Ensure alignment between engineering disciplines for seamless execution.
• Support interface management across engineering workstreams.

Procurement & Vendor Support

• Support procurement processes and vendor technical evaluations.
• Review equipment specifications, datasheets, and vendor submissions.
• Liaise with OEMs, suppliers, and fabrication workshops.

Construction, Installation & Commissioning Support

• Coordinate with fabrication workshops and construction teams.
• Support site installation and mechanical commissioning activities.
• Assist with troubleshooting and engineering modifications during execution.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
• Strong EPCM and mining plant construction experience
• Proven delivery of fabrication-ready engineering packages
• Advanced 3D plant design capability
• Strong understanding of modular plant construction and remote mining environments
• Demonstrated experience in hard-rock mineral processing plants
• Strong African mining experience including DRC / Central Africa
• Proficiency in:
  • AutoCAD
  • SolidWorks
  • Inventor
  • Plant 3D
  • Or equivalent plant engineering software

Essential Requirements

The successful candidate must demonstrate:

• Proven delivery of operational mining plants (not conceptual-only engineering)
• Hands-on engineering and execution capability
• Prior DRC or Central African mining experience
• Ability to work in remote and fast-paced project environments
• Practical, execution-focused engineering mindset
• Strong cross-cultural communication and leadership capability
