Role Overview: The Compliance Lead is a senior technical governance role responsible for ensuring that all the company deployments meet the highest standards of regulatory compliance, technical specification, and workmanship quality. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, this newly created position serves as the final technical authority for new site deployments and is responsible for compliance sign‑off following commissioning. The role oversees Small‑Scale Embedded Generation (SSEG) registration efforts and enforces standardised technical specifications across all deployments.
Key Responsibilities:
Regulatory Compliance&Governance:
Oversee regulatory compliance requirements related to Solar PV and BESS deployments.
Lead and govern SSEG registration efforts across municipalities and jurisdictions.
Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of applicable standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.
Act as the primary technical escalation point for compliance‑related issues.
Technical Specifications&Standards:
Develop, maintain, and enforce companies technical specifications and installation standards.
Ensure specifications align with regulatory, engineering, and manufacturer requirements.
Drive standardisation to reduce compliance risk and rework during deployments.
Workmanship Quality&Deployment Oversight:
Oversee workmanship quality during deployments to ensure compliance with approved standards.
Conduct or delegate site audits, inspections, and quality reviews.
Identify and address recurring workmanship or compliance issues.
Commissioning&Final Sign‑Off Authority:
Serve as the designated technical authority responsible for post‑commissioning sign‑off and deliver Certificates of Compliance (COCs).
Verify installations comply with approved designs, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
Ensure all compliance documentation is complete and audit‑ready before approval.
Act as primary technical compliance liaison with:
Municipal electrical departments and engineers
NERSA‑related SSEG processes
Eskom (where applicable)
Cross‑Functional Enablement&Support:
Collaborate with Engineering, Project Delivery, and Operations teams to embed compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
Provide technical input during design reviews and pre‑deployment planning.
Support training initiatives related to compliance, standards, and workmanship.
Requirements:
Registered Master Installation Electrician (MIE)– mandatory.
Relevant electrical engineering qualification, trade qualification, or equivalent technical background.
Minimum of 5–8 years' experience in electrical installations, compliance, or engineering roles.
Demonstrated experience with Solar PV and BESS.
Experience with SSEG registrations and municipal approval processes is strongly preferred.
Strong technical authority with attention to detail and compliance discipline.
Deep understanding of electrical standards, codes of practice, and regulatory frameworks.
Confidence to enforce standards and make final technical decisions.
Excellent documentation, reporting, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Ability to balance governance requirements with operational practicality.
